Honda Accord First Look: Lower, Wider, Shorter

Other cars in the Top 10 are Honda Civic, Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla, all of which are seeing sales declines in 2017. To date, more than 11 million have been assembled at this facility in the Buckeye State.

Although getting some extra space on the inside is never a bad thing, a lot of fans feel like the Accord size is perfect as it is a size upgrade would only make the vehicle too bulky.

The 2018 Accord arrives with three powertrain options, with drive going to the front wheels only for all of them. The overall length slightly shorter than the outgoing model at 192.1 inches.

"They could take share from other brands, which is traditionally what happens when a new product is launched", said Pete DeLongchamps, vice president for manufacturer relations at Group 1 Automotive Inc., the third-largest U.S. auto dealer group. Additional goodies include wireless phone charging, automatic Bluetooth pairing, 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot, and over-the-air automatic software updates. Road salt can get in and cause corrosion and an electrical short.

The Accord and Camry are pillars of their manufacturers' U.S. businesses, each selling well over 300,000 vehicles a year.

On Friday, Honda took the wraps off a new generation of the Accord, the nameplate's 10th.

Jefferies Group LLC set a $37.00 price objective on Honda Motor Company and gave the stock a buy rating in a report on Thursday, February 23rd. The automaker has also added new safety driver-assistance and connected-car features. However, Honda is also facing various challenges and concerns which incudes frequent recalling of defective vehicles, soaring R&D expenses and unfavorable foreign currency translation.

Honda Sensing technology-a suite of safety systems-is standard on all models and, importantly, on all trim levels, including base models. The new 2.0-liter turbo-four makes 26 fewer hp than the V-6, but torque is up by 21 lb-ft - and fuel efficiency should increase substantially. On Sport models with the 1.5-liter engine, Honda wins a big thumbs-up from us for offering a true-blue six-speed manual. Included are collision mitigation braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, cross-traffic monitoring, and driver-awareness monitoring. The materials used and new design help improve rigidity, crash strength, and reduce total vehicle weight by between 110 and 176 pounds depending on the model. In the back are LED taillights and duel exhaust ports.

This engine is fitted with forged connecting rods, a forged crankshaft, improved cylinder head and block water pathways, and sodium-filled exhaust valves. A rearview camera is standard equipment on all models, too.

The latest version of Honda's venerable Accord midsize car is lower, wider, lighter and sleeker than its predecessor, and the company says it's faster and handles better.
